DEVELOPMENTAL DELAY ASSESSMENT SERVICES

TCEC provides developmental delay assessments in five critical areas of childhood development including physical development, language development, academic or cognitive development, adaptive behavior, and social emotional development. Children who qualify for these services are between the ages of birth to seven years old. Our specialists provide these developmental delay services to support the student with their early academic experience.

Before providing any of our developmental delay assessments to students, we meet with the family and school providers to discuss the need for the evaluation or assessment. Upon agreement of an assessment, our team will:

STEP 1

Observe the student

in their learning environment.

STEP 2

Perform formal

and informal assessments in five areas listed above.

STEP 3

Determine eligibility:  A student qualifies when they have shown they are 1.5 standard deviations below their same-aged peers.

STEP 4

The team and parents review the results and discuss the next steps for student programming.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN
SCREENING SERVICES

Twin Cities Education Consultants (TCEC) work collaboratively with schools and districts to support the implementation of the early childhood screening assessment process.  Our team can assist with helping schools become authorized to perform early childhood screenings. Additionally, TCEC can work with individual school teams to provide the screening for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.

The Minnesota Department of Education states, “The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth.” It is vital to screen children in their early years, as it may catch potential physical or academic difficulties. If this early childhood screening assessment is taken between three and four years of age, it allows time to provide additional support to those students, if needed, before entering elementary school.

Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how each child is growing and developing. The early childhood screening assessment examines the following:

  • Vision and hearing

  • Height/weight and immunization records

  • Large and small muscle skills

  • Cognitive thinking skills

  • Language and communication skills

  • Social and emotional development

After the screening is complete, information about a child’s development is gathered and shared with families and educators.  If further assessment is needed, TCEC has a team of educators that can help facilitate the next steps in collaboration with individual schools.
